Mountain bike rides in Transilvania

A mountain bike ride close to Brașov just perfect to unwind after a long winter or for a weekend when you don't want to go too far away from the city. The route is a classic both for the residents of Brasov and for those visiting the picturesque Holbav-Poiana Mărului area.

The route takes you into the heart of the Țara Hațegului UNESCO Geopark and offers you opportunities to discover places where dinosaur fossils have been found, breathtaking landscapes, and a medieval fortress.

The circuit starts and returns in Hațeg and offers a good perspective on the natural and cultural riches of the area. It's an ideal route to pass through the places where fossils of dwarf dinosaurs were discovered - hence the name of the geopark - and to admire the crest of the Retezat Mountains.

La movilele sau piramidele de la Șona ajungi cu mountain bike-ul fie mai ușor, din Făgăraș, fie ceva mai greu, dar mai frumos, din Hălmeag. Acest traseu urmează varianta mai provocatoare, însă cu un început antrenant și promițător.

The Birch Tree Reserve from Reci offers a wide variety of walking routes (on foot or by bike), during which you can admire the flora and recharge your batteries.

The villages of Șinca Veche, Șercaia, Vad, and Șona, near Brașov, boast a few natural and cultural wonders that make a bike tour in the area particularly rewarding. A classic road trip should be fine as well, but cycling in the region builds more memorable experiences.

The route leads you to a little-known area above the Bicaz Gorges, to one of the isolated mountain villages, respectively to a spectacular rock formation that can be seen from afar from various spots: Vitoș peak (1609m).

A cross-country ride, with a lot of asphalt, but also with dirt paths, forest, and a very slippery macadam descent if you do not have a good command of your bike. A visit to the fortified church in Cloașterf and a break for refreshments at Camping Zori will nicely add to the whole adventure.

A route for everyone who loves nature and history in equal measure. We pass several fortified churches and at the same time enjoy the bike paths in the forest.

The MTB "Treasure" Circuit near the city of Targu Mureș runs along the smooth hills between Livezeni and Miercurea Nirajului and is the first route of its kind to be fully marked and set up in the county.
