Sas Rigais - an impressive round tour through the Geisler group

If you choose the round tour via the Kreuzjoch and the Wasserscharte as well as through the Wasserrinnental and the eastern ascent to the Sas Rigais, you will experience the mountain solitude up close until you reach the summit. Only the descent from the 3025 m high summit via the Villnösser descent to the Mittagsscharte and the way back via the Adolf Munkel path shows the popularity of this ascent to the second highest peak in the Geisler Group. The mountain and via ferrata tour is more than 20 km long and over 2000 metres in altitude, making it quite demanding in terms of fitness due to the ascents and descents. The east ascent as well as the south-west and Villnösser descent to the Mittagsscharte are not particularly difficult for a via ferrata, but you should still use the via ferrata set at least for the east ascent. The descent, on the other hand, is manageable for sure-footed alpinists without a via ferrata set. On the descent, however, it is important to place the footholds safely, as a fall over the rocky terrain would also end fatally here. The way back via the Adolf Munkel path at the foot of the mighty north faces of the Geisler group shows this mountain range once again in all its beauty.

The Pisciadu via ferrata is one of the most popular via ferratas in the Dolomites. This is due to the fact that it is "only" categorised as moderately difficult, the access to the via ferrata is quite short and it ends directly below the Pisciadu refuge. There is also the option of climbing the magnificent Pisciadu summit after completing the via ferrata or extending the whole tour to a circular tour across the Sella plateau. Nevertheless, the via ferrata should not be underestimated, as it has some quite challenging, tricky and somewhat strenuous passages in the upper section. However, the Pisciadu via ferrata offers the option of skipping the upper section near the Exner tower and climbing up to the refuge via an alternative route. The Pisciadu summit does not present any real technical difficulties. However, surefootedness and a head for heights are essential on the southern ascent (normal route). The ascent to the Sella plateau via the Dolomites High Trail is easy, as is the onward route to the Sela de Pisciadu, where the descent to the Pisciadu hut takes place. The exception is the direct access, which leads down a steep but secured 15 - 20 metre long rocky section. If you are not sure, you should overcome this short section with the via ferrata set. From the refuge, the route then descends again, particularly in the upper section, very steeply through the Val Setus. The descent is via an easy via ferrata, which is very popular with beginners for the ascent to the Pisciadu refuge.

The Pößnecker via ferrata is a classic among the via ferrata routes in the Dolomites. This difficult via ferrata through the vertical rock was built back in 1912. The previously unsecured sections of the via ferrata have since been made safer after the airy chimney was also secured. The second section of the via ferrata is easy throughout, allowing you to enjoy the surrounding mountain scenery. The hike across the extensive Sella plateau is impressive. Even the descent into the valley between the mighty Dolomite walls through Val Lastiés is an experience.
