Finland

"Suomi", as the Finns themselves call their country, lives up to its reputation as the land of a thousand lakes and forests. No matter if you are in the capital Helsinki in the south of Finland or in Utsjoki, the country's northernmost municipality – nature is never far away. Due to its location on the edge of Europe, between Sweden and Russia, Finland creates a geographical, scenic and cultural link between East and West in an area of around 338,000 square kilometers.

Outdoor activities in Finland

In summer as well as in winter, Finland's vast and varied landscapes offer numerous opportunities for outdoor sports enthusiasts and nature lovers. As one of the most sparsely populated countries in Europe, Finland is also a destination for all those who are looking for peace and quiet in nature. Here you can relax from a hectic everyday life, spend time in the forest and rediscover the pleasant slowness, following the motto "Slow Finland".

Numerous hiking trails lead you through Finland's varied landscape. Walk through quiet forests, along the rugged coast and the proverbial thousand lakes of the country!

Cycling tours in Finland are also exciting and varied. Whether by conventional bicycle, e-bike or mountain bike – the landscapes between the south coast and Lapland attract every bike lover.

The four major Finnish Regions

Finland's economic, cultural and political center is the capital Helsinki near the south coast. Big city in the middle of greenery, home of Finnish design, meeting point for culinary friends and only a short walk away from the typical Finnish nature.

On and off the southwest coast, inhabited and uninhabited islands form together with rocks and cliffs an impressive landscape – the largest archipelago in the world. On foot or by bike, over bridges and by ferry you can go from island to island.

In south-east Finland, glaciers once formed the hilly landscape. The Finnish Lake District stretches here, on which, in addition to the country's largest lake, the Saimaa, countless smaller lakes lie and which have earned Finland its nickname "Land of a Thousand Lakes".

Lapland in the north of the country is characterized by treeless plateaus, the so-called fells, as well as by dense coniferous forests and mire landscapes. The polar climate makes you feel the proximity to the North Pole. Led by the 1328 m high Halti, the highest mountains of the country are located here.

Slow Finland

The strength is to be found in serenity: In the vastness of the Finnish nature it is easy to recover from the hectic everyday life. Here your mind calms down, your rhythm slows down. It has been proven that spending time in the forest lowers blood pressure and lifts the mood.

In the calming and varied nature between the south coast and Utsjoki you will experience the "Slow Finland". This includes carefully prepared food and of course relaxation and detoxification in the sauna.
