Climate in Spain

Climatically, Spain is one of the warmest countries in Europe with over 3000 hours of sunshine per year. A predominantly Mediterranean climate with dry summers, mild winters and balanced temperatures provides ideal conditions for outdoor activities. However, the climate varies within the country depending on the geographical location and particular landforms.

Take advantage of the warm spring and autumn days and mild winter months of the Mediterranean climate for hiking in the Mediterranean region and the Balearic Islands. Or experience the green landscapes of the north from spring to autumn: The Atlantic climate, which extends from the Pyrenees to Galicia, has given rise to lush deciduous forests there. If you are looking for pleasant temperatures all year round, the subtropical climate of the Canary Islands is a real guarantee. Amazing volcanic moonscapes and extraordinary ecosystems await you. Snow can also be found in the Spanish mountainous regions, especially during the winter months: Enjoy the beauty of the snowy landscapes created by the mountain climate in such spectacular places as the Pyrenees or the Sierra Nevada, or in the many almost unknown mountain worlds in the inland of the country.

Over 8000 kilometers of coastline offer many sun and beach experiences for a relaxing stay where you can enjoy the sea. Spend unforgettable moments on one of the most beautiful coasts in Europe. More than 500 Spanish beaches are certified to have the cleanest waters by the ‘Blue Flag’ association. This makes Spain the country in Europe with the most Blue Flag awards. From the warm and crystal-clear waters of the Mediterranean coast to the rougher waters of the Atlantic coasts of Andalusia and Galicia to the Bay of Biscay coast in the north, the mainland offers a wide variety of beaches of different characters. On the islands, the four Balearic Islands with their beautiful bays called calas and the Atlantic beaches of the Canary Islands partly inspire with black sand of volcanic origin or with white endless dune landscapes. In Spain, everyone is guaranteed to find their favorite beach.

Spain’s culture

Immerse yourself in Spain's millennia-old culture and get excited about the country's cultural richness.

Are you interested in art? More than 1,500 museums offer some of the most exceptional collections in the world. They range from the classicism of the Prado Museum in Madrid to the avant-garde of the Guggenheim Museum in Bilbao. In almost every town and village you visit, you'll find little museum treasures that are well worth a visit.

Are you a history buff? No less than 15 cities have been declared World Heritage Sites by UNESCO for their architectural, artistic and cultural value. And most of the other Spanish cities have almost completely preserved historic centers that make history tangible.

Spanish cuisine

Spanish cuisine is now a world leader. The combination of avant-garde Spanish cuisine, the Mediterranean diet – which is part of UNESCO's Intangible Cultural Heritage – and the diverse gastronomic traditions of the different regions make the Iberian Peninsula a gastronomic hotspot.
