Several days on skis

Ski tourers particularly enjoy the peace and seclusion they encounter in the mountains. If you want this feeling for more than just a few hours, you go on a long distance ski tour. You will be on the move for several days, often crossing several snow-covered peaks, spending the night in huts and experiencing the very special atmosphere of winter nature.

Long distance ski tours are a challenge and should only be undertaken by experienced ski tourers. It is not only the winter cold that will challenge you on the way. You should therefore be physically and mentally fit and have good stamina and performance.

Here's what you should bear in mind for long distance ski tours

There are a few things to consider when ski touring: What will the weather be like in the mountains? What is the current avalanche situation? Are there protection zones for wild animals in the region? How are the slopes and slope conditions? For long distance ski tours, all these questions are also relevant.

In the mountains, the weather can change quickly, and to avoid extending yourself on one stage, information about the topography is particularly important. Before you set off, you should inform yourself about the avalanche situation. But even if you are well prepared, you can still be surprised by an avalanche. You should therefore pay particular attention to appropriate equipment.

By the way: With the BuddyBeacon you can share your location in real time with friends and family. This means that you can be found particularly quickly in an emergency.

Equipment for your long distance ski tour

The right equipment is crucial for your long distance ski tour. If your clothes are ill-fitting or your equipment is not well-made, the fun factor will quickly decrease. Therefore, you should make sure you have the right equipment beforehand and test it on a ski tour. LSV equipment is particularly important and you should have it with you at all times in order to be able to react appropriately in an emergency.

In addition to the things you need for a ski tour, you should also have the following items with you:

  • Bivouac bag and rescue blanket
  • Repair kit (skin tensioner, spray glue, wire, wax, tape, stick plate)
  • Travel documents
  • Culture bag and travel towel
  • Hood kit

Ski crossings with the features of Outdooractive

A good map is important for longer routes, especially if you are touring with skis and there are often no clearly marked trails. At Outdooractive, you can find out the current avalanche situation, the current snow depth and the weather on the map.

With the route planner you can create your day tours in advance and get an idea of the length, duration and difference in altitude. While you are on the move, you have the option of tracking your long distance ski tour and having it navigate you.
