A century ago, however, things looked very different. In the villages and on the hermit farms, work had to go on even in hard and snowy winters. Where the carriages got stuck, horse-drawn sledges were used. Wood, hay, straw and even the post were often transported, but people were seldom. This is because, like the carriage, passenger sleighs were mostly reserved for the upper classes, who even in earlier times organised trips for pleasure.
Today, sleigh rides are an experience for everyone and are especially popular in winter sports destinations. Wrapped up thickly in warm skins or blankets, you won't get cold on the ride with one or two horsepower.
The construction of most sleds, however, has remained the same: unsprung and with two full-length metal runners.
